Choose the actual payment type

A customer paying a business through Checkout is different from sending a Goods & Services payment. Standard Card and Advanced/Expanded Card contracts are also separate products. Choose the method recorded for the transaction rather than selecting whichever rate gives the highest net. The calculator offers four published domestic commercial options.

Goods & Services in this table has no fixed fee. It does not automatically describe every invoice or checkout selling goods. Invoice Checkout follows the Checkout line; this version does not model invoice ACH, subscriptions or other payment methods.

Start with the entire processed amount

Enter the gross USD payment, including shipping or tax collected within it. The calculator applies the percentage to that amount, rounds the percentage charge to the nearest cent using half-up estimation, and adds the selected fixed fee once. It does not look up tax, account contracts or seller eligibility.

Domestic means PayPal identifies both sender and receiver as residents of the same US market. Receiving USD does not make a foreign customer's payment domestic. International receipts and conversion are outside this tool, as are refunds, disputes, holds and transfer fees. Use your account statement to reconcile a real payment.

A $100 payment is not $100 in profit

For a hypothetical $100 Checkout payment, the percentage charge is $3.49 and the fixed USD charge is $0.49. The processing fee is $3.98, leaving $96.02. If that gross payment also includes tax, the tax liability still needs to be handled; processing net does not make it seller revenue.

For a separate example with no buyer tax, $40 product cost and $5 postage, deducting only those two costs from $96.02 leaves $51.02 before any ads, platform charges, overhead or income tax. The PayPal calculator shows processing net, so it will continue to display $96.02 until you use an order-profit tool to include business costs.

Reverse the calculation for a target net

A target asks for a minimum gross payment after processing, rather than a business-profit target. For $100 net with Checkout, $104.12 produces a rounded $3.63 percentage charge plus $0.49 fixed, for a $4.12 fee and $100 net. At $104.11, the rounded total fee is still $4.12 and net is $99.99.

The solver checks whole cents with the same rounding as the forward calculation. It avoids treating a displayed decimal approximation as a verified minimum. If no amount within the $1,000,000 calculator range reaches the target, it displays that outcome instead of an estimated price. This calculator range is not a statement of PayPal's transaction limits. A target calculation also does not decide whether you may add a fee to a customer's bill.

Avoid counting payment processing twice

Marketplace and payment-provider fees serve different roles. Managed eBay payments and US Etsy Payments already include payment processing in their fee models; do not add a hypothetical PayPal charge to those estimates simply because the buyer used a PayPal-branded option.

For a Shopify order processed externally, check the applicable processor and Shopify platform charges together. The Shopify tool lets you enter third-party processor costs and the applicable contract assumptions; this PayPal tool checks only the named PayPal processing fee. Use the entered-cost pricing tool for a separate dollar fee allocation, with the same costs counted once.

Compare the estimate with the statement

Copy or print the transaction type, gross payment, rate, fee and processing net. Optional Save stores inputs only in the current browser, and can be cleared. Calculator amounts do not enter optional usage analytics.

Compare a real statement with the selected product, country, currency and account terms before changing prices. Fee adjustments, rounding, negotiated contracts and settlement deductions can explain differences.
