All fee rules & sources
Which Shopify payments are covered by automatic rates?

Published US Basic, Grow and Advanced rates for one online standard or premium card transaction, with an optional international card uplift. This excludes POS, PayPal, installments, manual payments and currency conversion. Use custom contract inputs for negotiated rates or Plus.

What is a premium card?

For US Shopify Payments, commercial or business cards and domestic American Express cards use the premium category. Standard domestic consumer cards use standard rates. International cards have an additional rate. Check the card category and actual fee in your account.

Will I pay both Shopify Payments and third-party processing?

No. Third-party mode uses the processor rate and fixed fee you enter, plus the Shopify transaction rate for the selected plan. It does not add the Shopify Payments card rate. Some payment methods are exempt from the platform fee, so choose a custom contract when the published fee does not apply.

Why do the fee base and seller revenue differ?

Processing and applicable third-party transaction fees use item price after discounts, shipping charged and buyer tax. Buyer tax is money collected for authorities, so it is excluded from seller revenue and profit.

Does break-even ROAS cover my plan and app subscriptions?

The variable-cost target excludes the monthly allocation and includes all entered non-ad per-order costs. A separate allocated-cost target also covers the plan and apps. Net profit always subtracts the monthly allocation and entered ad cost. These targets do not model attribution or future demand.
